Eperosa Magnolia Shiraz 2020
Mike Bennie, The Wine Front. Posted on 31 May 2022.
There are quite a few ‘Magnolia’ labelled wines in the Eperosa line-up – named for the vineyard of course. Organic farming underpins the vineyard, a low or no addition approach is the winemaking motif. Brett Grocke is a ripper fella and makes some honest-to-goodness expressions of the Barossa, unashamed to portray the warm beating heart of the place, perhaps just with a bit more fruit finesse and freshness on hand at times. Shiraz here, this one more heartland stuff. This is superb. It’s firmly sheathed in tannin, very dark fruited, herbal-earthy and elemental and dusted heavily with clove and cinnamon spice. It tastes all about fruit, it’s many shades, sits partly in the darkness and lifts on the light. It ripples along with authority and puckers the palate to refreshing dry at the end. Serious stuff, hefty in a way, but cool and lifted after each sip. Seriously good. Bravo.
