Eperosa Grenache Mataro 2020

Campbell Mattinson, The Wine Front. Posted on 20 August 2022.

67% grenache, 33% mataro, grown and organically farmed in the Krondorf sub-region. Hand-picked and hand-sorted. 18 days on skins and then basket pressed to old French oak. Bottled unfined and unfiltered. There’s magic in these Eperosa reds. This is sinewy and leathery and lovely, its gently developed fruit flavours mixed thoroughly with complex (woodsy) spice, herb and meat-like influences. Tannin comes in sheets; fine-grained but assertive. Character here is writ large. There’s plenty of length too. If you wanted to be super-critical you might point to those developed notes, in a two-year-old red, as a bit premature but this will hold and develop into the medium term with ease, and drink beautifully every step of the way.
