Eperosa Grenache Mataro 2017

September 15, 2018

Posted on 16 August 2018.

A blend of 60% Grenache from Stonegarden 1858 plantings and Magnolia 1950 plantings with Mataro from the Hoffmann Sand Block, Ebenezer, which was planted in the year 2000.

It’s fragrant and perfumed (roses and dried herb), quite spicy too, in with raspberry and caramel. Medium bodied, firm sandy tannin, some earthiness, fruity, but restrained, with a distinct sappy/green herb character, and bitter orange on a nice long finish. It’s an interesting wine. Not your usual suspects here, for sure, has an energy and individual character. Something of a cliché, perhaps, but strikes me as a Pinot Noir drinkers Barossa wine. Or Italianate. Anyway, you get the idea, and while it may not be for everyone, I like the cut of its jib.
