SEPTEMBER 18, 2018

One of the great things about living in the Eden Valley these past 10 years has been watching fledgling wine labels blossom and evolve.

One such label is Brett Grocke’s Eperosa. Grocke is a bit of a gun in the vineyard, a sought-after manager of all t...

Far out. Barrel ferment Semillon from the Magnolia Road Vineyard, Vine Vale – plantings – 1941, 1971 and 1975.

Colour: she’s golden but she’s green. Sweet lemon, a little spice and honey, rich, but fresh. The texture like sun, so energising, wit...

Includes a cheeky 5% Malbec, and comes from a vineyard planted in the 1860s and 1950s. As an aside, it’s great to see wines coming out of the Barossa that feel more ‘natural’ and not tricked up in the winery so much, and not ashamed of tannin.

It’s fragrant and perfumed (roses and dried herb), quite spicy too, in wi...

His day job, as it were, is tending/managing 14 vineyards in the Barossa Valley, and consulting to numerous grape growers and wineries across South...

Barossa Valley – more notes, this time from two new names to me.

I always try to taste some new wineries whenever I travel and after visiting some of the well-known estates, I met up with Eperosa and Rojomoma Red Art to see what they had to offer.  A...

From a single row of the 67' planting.  The fragrant bouquet has unexpected meaty nuances among numerous others, the palate rich, with spicy savoury notes running through the multifaceted black berry fruits, the tannins ripe and balanced.  Reaches the back-palate and f...

Single dry grown vineyard at 325m, 65' 96' plantings.  Deep crimson; a sumptuously rich and velvety wine with favours ranging from spicey/briary to liqueur plums, the tannins ripe and plump. A hedonistic wine from start to finish.  Cork.  15.3% alc. Rating 96...

Magnolia 1896 Barossa Valley Shiraz 2015

From the 1896 planting, wild yeast fermented, matured in used French puncheons.  The sheer power and intensity of this full-bodied wine neutralises any downside from the high alcohol, the overall flavour and mouthfeel on the savo...
