100% Shiraz - Magnolia Road Vineyard, Vine Vale, Barossa Valley
1440 bottles filled
Estate Vineyard, Dry Farmed, Single Block - 1965 planted
The Magnolia 1965 Shiraz is sourced from the four best barrels of the 1965 block on our Magnolia Road Vineyard. This block is meticulously rod and spur pruned and grows on the highest and deepest section of alluvial sands at an elevation of 320-330 metres. The block is farmed organically along with shoot thinning , bunch thinning, hand picking and fruit sorting and was dry grown in the 2016/2017 season. The wine was aged in four French oak hogsheads and after 15 months gently hand racked from barrel for bottling with no fining or filtration.
Tasting Notes: This wine paints a picture of the vineyard site and farming methods. There's bloody ferrous red fruits and rhubarb along with powerful fruit and tight tannins from the deep granitic sands, organic farming, rigorous control of crop load and dry grown vines. The wine has a complex interwoven savoury and mineral line that keeps it tight and focused for the future. It's shyness now born from its powerful core of complex fruit and tannin that will see it age well into the future.
