The Grenache-Mataro (formerly known as Synthesis) combines two beautiful Grenache blocks, our Magnolia Rd property planted in 1950 and the Stonegarden vineyard planted in 1858. The Mataro is from the Hoffmann vineyard in Ebenezer, planted in 2000. A common feature of the 3 blocks is that they all grow on sandy soils derived from granite and/or quartz, a key aspect of the wines energy and definition.
The wine has vibrant raspberry/strawberry aromas with finer details of rose, musk and spice. The palate is energetic and alive with red fruits and a lovely mineral tension through the mid palate that finishes with an interplay of spice and fine tannins. The immediate drinkability stakes are high here, especially if you're into wines with line, length and fruit vitality. Ageing up to 15 years.
