2015 Elevation Barossa Valley Shiraz
Magnolia Road, Vine Vale Shiraz 100%
The Elevation Barossa Valley Shiraz is sourced from the best barrels of three small Shiraz blocks on our Magnolia Road Vineyard planted in 1965 (40%), 1996 (40%) and 2010 (20%). The 1965 and 1996 blocks were both dry grown with the average yield across all three blocks at a low 1.28t/Ac. The vines grow on deep alluvial granitic sand at an elevation of 325 metres and are farmed organically along with rod and spur pruning, shoot thinning and bunch thinning. The fruit was handpicked and hand sorted prior to wild yeast fermentation in open fermenters. The wine was basket pressed into French oak barriques, hogsheads and puncheons and after 19 months gently hand racked from barrel for bottling with no fining or filtration. The resulting wine is elegant yet powerful with brilliant red/blue fruit aromas, a complex dark fruited iron/ferrous palate and lingering fine grain tannins.
